Creating and Solving Logical Reasoning Problems

If you subject a typical IQ test to AI, it might be difficult to find a person with a higher IQ than AI.

As mentioned earlier, AI functions as a function with an enormous number of inputs and various potential outputs.

With its tremendous computational and pattern recognition abilities, AI can solve or generate a variety of reasoning problems.

Solving Physical Reasoning Problems

AI can solve physical reasoning problems by considering the size, weight, shape, and strength of objects.

Stacking Objects in Order
You have to stack the following five objects from bottom to top in order.

Consider the physical characteristics of each object
to find the most stable sequence to stack the five objects
and explain your reasoning.

1. Smartphone
2. Paperback Book
3. Laptop
4. Egg
5. Table

AI Response Example

To stack the five objects stably, consider factors such as weight, size, and balance. The most stable stacking order is as follows:

  1. Table
  2. Laptop
  3. Paperback Book
  4. Smartphone
  5. Egg

Reason:

  1. Table: It should be at the bottom. The table is the largest, heaviest, and provides a stable base, so it should be placed at the bottom.

  2. Laptop: Suitable to place on the table. It is larger and heavier than the book and smartphone, making it stable on top of the table.

  3. Paperback Book: Suitable to place on the laptop. The book is lighter and smaller than the laptop, so placing it on top won't disrupt balance.

  4. Smartphone: Suitable to place on the book. The smartphone is smaller and lighter than the book, maintaining stability on top.

  5. Egg: It must be at the top. Eggs are very fragile and difficult to balance, so they should be placed at the top to avoid being crushed by heavier objects below.

Stacking the objects in this order ensures stability and balance.

Generating Logical Reasoning Problems

AI can also be used to solve logical reasoning problems.

Logical Reasoning Problem
There are three friends: A, B, and C.
Each of them likes a different subject: math, science, and history.

A does not like math.
C does not like history.
B likes science.

Who likes history?

AI Response Example

Let's analyze each condition to solve the problem.

  1. A does not like math.
  2. C does not like history.
  3. B likes science.

Now deduce the subject preferences of each friend based on these conditions.

  • Since B likes science, B is associated with science.
  • C does not like history, so C can like either math or science. However, B already likes science, so C must like math.
  • A does not like math and cannot like science because B likes it, so A must like history.

Therefore, A likes history.

To have AI generate these types of logical reasoning problems, use prompts like the following:

Logical Reasoning Problem Generation Prompt
Create two logic quiz problems suitable for an average adult to challenge themselves.

The quizzes should not contain difficult long sentences or complex equations,
and the conditions to solve the problems should be clearly specified.
